Joyce Marie visited STA last Friday to perform her one-woman show about Sojourner Truth. She captivated the students with her dynamic portrayal of our school's heroic namesake. She was so convincing that the end of the performance, a goup of students gathered around her in awe and said, "Are you really Sojourner Truth? I thought you were dead.
Joyce Marie will also be performing at the 2010 STA Black History Celebration. Join us on Thursday, February 18th and watch her tell the story of Sojourner Truth.

5th and 6th grades spent Tuesday afternoon at Feed My Starving Children in Coon Rapids where they packaged nutritious bags of grains and vitamins that will be shipped to children throughout the world that don't have enough to eat. Students learned about the positive effects of a regular healthy meal and had a lot of fun chanting "Chicken! Veggies! Soy! And Rice!" as they assembled the packages. Over the course of an hour and a half our group packaged 18,000 meals, enough to feed 51 children one meal per day for a whole year! |

Sojourner Truth Academy and Doing Good Together partnered together to create Family Service Night on December 17, 2009.
The results are in on how STA families made a difference in Minneapolis: 135 children and their parents worked together to make a difference by serving others. 31 tie blankets were made and brought... to Project Linus. 216 sandwiches were made and brought to Catholic Charities. 95 place mats were decorated and given to Meals On Wheels. 47 cards were made and sent to 2 children with terminal illness. 20 giving boxes were decorated and taken home to collect future donations to be given to non-profits. Over 30 thank you cards were made to be sent to foundations that have donated money and supplies to STA. All of these service projects will make a positive impact in someone's life.
A big THANK YOU to all of the staff and families that worked so hard to make this special night possible!!! |
